……….Indian Wells Valley GPS Trekkers………

What is GPS?

The Global Positioning System, or GPS, consists of 24 satellites – orbiting 12,000 miles above the Earth – transmitting time and position information to GPS receivers throughout the world. Hunters, anglers, and adventurers rely on this information and their GPS receivers to navigate anywhere on the earth. GPS receivers also produce other critical navigation information, including heading, bearing, distance-to-go, time-to-go, and more, anytime, anywhere and in any weather.

What is an IWV GPS Event?

An IWV GPS Event combines a way to become proficient in the use of a GPS with the fun of finding places, solving a puzzle, seeking hidden treasure, seeing lots of interesting places in the valley and meeting some wonderful people. There are several scheduled events throughout the year, you select the event or events in which you would like to participate and notify us by email or phone. A notice of at least a week prior to the event will be sufficient. The cost per entrant can range from Free to $20.00 depending on the Event. Each entrant may bring guests at no charge but other than free events, only paid participants may be eligible for awards. There are some very nice prizes awarded at the completion of each event, usually at a local restaurant. Plan to have an exciting day! You can get on our notification list by clicking here.

What if I don't have a GPS?

No problem. We can provide training and a rental.

Who Sponsors the Events?

We are sponsored by The China Lake Rotary Club and supported by the Ridgecrest - Inyokern Air Show & Balloon Festival and by businesses of the Indian Wells Valley and a dedicated staff of volunteers who organize these events through out the year.

Where do the profits go?

Any profits are shared with the China Lake Rotary Club for any number of charities they support through out the year.

Want to join the group?

IF you would like to be a GPS volunteer and help organize the events, you can join us on the first Tuesday of each month at 7PM. Click here to be put on the list or just drop in. The meetings are held at the Casa Java Coffee Shop, 972 N. Norma Street, Ridgecrest, CA.
